This week we will start to get to grips with the year 6 curriculum, now that the 11+ assessments are out of the way.

In maths our first topic is place value and number: last week's pre-unit assessment highlighted gaps in understanding so I will be targeting those as well as covering new material. By year 6 our understanding of place value and number takes us into the tens of millions. We will be looking at the value of digits within these larger numbers, how we read and record them in words and digits, ordering and comparing and rounding to the nearest 10,100, 1000, 10,000, 100, 000 and 1,000,000.

In English we will write  holiday recounts, focusing on accurate paragraphing and detailed description. This task will allow me to assess not only writing skill, but also handwriting and spelling.

In geography we start our topic - Amazing Americas with a focus on North America this term while in art we are investigating famous designers and will design our own cup and saucer in the style of Emma Bridgewater.

It's going to be a busy but probably less stressful week!
