A week in which we go all science-fictiony...

In a week of a super moon (and a couple of weeks after the class finished their work on planets [oops]), we are going to begin a second piece of narrative work, this time with a science-fiction theme. We will begin with some reading and analysis of some science-fiction texts to find out what makes them tick and to play "spot the trope", (no, that's not a jelly-shaped Dr. Who monster), and also do a spot of vocabulary-widening and vocabulary-appropriation before tackling the actual story.

We are still in the realms of multiplication and division, specifically looking at squared and cubed numbers, prime numbers and prime factors this week and, in History, we will find out a bit about Anglo-Saxon crime and punishment, medicines and food. Some of the facts are as science-fictiony as anything we might experience when reading.

Whisper it softly, but I have a feeling the first forays into a Choral Christmas may be made this week. Surely too soon, I hear you cry...but we are only four weeks from the performance...
