Our church is St John the Baptist Tunstall. We work collegiately with the church, so that inspired by Jesus, we are helping children to become the best they can be. Some members of the Parochial Church Council are governors of our school.
Throughout their time at Tunstall Church of England Primary School children visit the church. This may be for an act of Collective Worship, to celebrate a key festival in the Christian calendar such as Harvest or Easter, or for an end of term service. We also hold our Year 6 Leavers’ service in the church at the end of the summer term.
Our RE curriculum can sometimes be supported by visits to the church. This may be to have ‘hands on’ experience of artifacts or to explore ceremonies such as Confirmation and Baptism which take place in a Church.
Reverend Alan Pinnegar is a governor of the school and regularly leads Collective Worship. He is supported by a team of parish clergy who are friendly and familiar faces for our children.
Outside school, many pupils have links to the church and attend Sunday School. Several members of the church work within our school and run a ‘Church Club’ after school on the third Tuesday of each month. There are also opportunities for children to join the church choir, be confirmed into the Church of England or become acolytes.
