What we are learning this week and next and this week's homework challenge!
It has been great to get back into the swing of things this week at Tunstall. We are enjoying getting to know your children and getting to grips with this term's learning.
This week we are focussing on phonics, introducing cursive handwriting, guided reading and assessing your children's progress in English and Maths. We will also be starting this term's Discovery topic 'Where do I live?' Recounting the story of Matthew the tax collector in RE and beginning gymnastics in PE.
We have also introduced our new reward system - Dojo points!
Next week we shall be looking at sentence writing in English, focussing on capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. In Maths we shall be focussing on place value to 20 and cracking those tricky teen numbers. In Discovery we will be looking at England and London and in RE continuing to look at the Good News Jesus brought.
NEW!!!! We shall be posting our homework challenges here on the class page so remember to check back each week for a new challenge. If you want to share your child's success with their teacher please feel free to send in pictures or even just a note in the contact book so we can share their achievements.
Play a game with 10 toys...and a bed!
Hide some of the toys in the bed and keep some of the toys out.
If 1/2/3 etc toys are out of the bed, how many toys are in the bed? Repeat and change the number in the bed/out of the bed.
Tricky challenge: How could you record on paper the number of toys in the bed/out of the bed?
Don't forget to encourage your child's enjoyment, confidence and progress with reading through our online Bug Club resource. The site (www.activelearnprimary.co.uk) offers a wide range of engaging books with tasks to promote comprehension skills. Your child's username and password can be found in your child's Contact Book
