Are smiles enough? coupled with laughter, secure friendship bonds, the ability to praise and be praised, a love of learning and a passion for reading, readiness for life and love of life itself?
At Tunstall CEP we measure the impact of our Curriculum through smiles and the development of our children as successful learners, who are responsible, confident and have the communication and leadership skills to be team players. We use data systems and termly pupil progress meetings to strategically track our children’s attainment and progress ensuring timely intervention and support for all pupils. Our expectations are unequivocally high, but they are not about pressure of results and narrowing of the curriculum to demonstrate National excellence. They are about believing the best in every child and wanting to support them to attain their God given potential.
Assessment for learning empowers children to consider themselves as the learner and as time goes on peer assessment allows children to consider their friends as learners. Teacher conferencing and verbal feedback prove the most powerful assessment tool to move learning forwards but we value, and therefore mark, all work. Formal assessment is relevant, appropriate and used in moderation to ensure we keep meticulous track of pupils’ attainment and progress, and that our children are prepared for National testing.
Impact at Tunstall CEP comes in so many forms: it is the letter from the King where a pupil has independently written to him about climate change; the lowering of the Union Jack on Remembrance Day as all the school sing the National Anthem and can articulate why they have made wreaths; the dancing round the Maypole and upholding of local tradition; children performing skills learnt outside of school as part of our weekly Celebration Worship and the gracious serving of lunch to the elderly of our community every month.
