Tunstall C of E Primary School is excited to invite you to our parent and child groups for the local community.
These fun, teacher led sessions will introduce early phonics through songs, nursery rhymes, games and activities, encouraging a love of reading from a very early age.
Tiny Lights of Tunstall
Tiny Lights of Tunstall is open to parents/carers and babies from 4-6months to approximately 24 months and will gently introduce you to activities you can do with your baby to support their early language acquisition. We will use well known nursery rhymes with actions and props to help your child learn to recognise sounds around them and make purposeful noises themselves. We will also share simple yet fun books and model how to make this an exciting and beneficial activity at home. We are a Makaton friendly school, so simple Makaton signs are also introduced.
Little Lights of Tunstall
Little Lights of Tunstall offers a slightly more energetic session for those with confident walkers and explorers, aged 2 years up to preschool. We continue to look at sounds and speech through nursery rhymes, songs, books and activities to support and prepare them for learning to read and write when they enter Reception. Above all, we want them to foster a love of books and a craving to understand the print on the page.
Each class is capped at 15 families (typically 1 baby/child and 1 parent/carer, but other family members are very welcome) and spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a waiting list where necessary. To register your interest, please follow the link at the top of the page. A six week block is £18.
Sessions last 45 minutes and take place in the Small hall at the school. There is limited space for buggies/car seats so please only bring them indoors if necessary. We ask that you remove your shoes when you come in and wear socks.
The class themes will change each week, all year round, but the skills and knowledge progression will be repeated. Children learn best through repetition… in a fun environment of course.
