Sport at Tunstall is energetic, inclusive and ambition-driven. We hold the School Games Mark — Gold Level, recognising our sustained commitment to PE, competition and active school life.
All children receive two hours of high-quality PE each week, delivered through a balanced curriculum of fundamental movement, dance, gymnastics, games and athletics, alongside specialist coaching from our Kickstart partners. Lessons are deliberately sequenced so skills build year-on-year: EYFS and KS1 focus on physical literacy and coordination through playful, outdoor activity; KS2 refines those foundations into sport-specific techniques, tactical understanding and performance confidence.
We provide rich extracurricular opportunities and strong community links to widen participation and deepen enjoyment. Pupils access a wide range of after-school clubs and holiday courses, and we work closely with local providers and clubs — including netball, cricket, hockey, rugby, athletics and martial arts — to offer taster sessions, talent pathways and signposting to further provision. Our competitive offer follows School Games formats and engages pupils of all ages and abilities in stage-appropriate competition, leadership and officiating roles.
Widening participation is central: we aim for at least one third of pupils to be active in extracurricular sport each week and run targeted campaigns (Health Week, house competitions, community festivals) to inspire reluctant participants. The result is confident, resilient pupils who develop teamwork, leadership and lifelong healthy habits — ready to represent the school, enjoy sport for life and thrive physically, socially and emotionally.
