Well done to all of the children on a fantastic first week in Orange Classes! We were so proud of how the children settled and embraced the new challenges of Year 1. We are so looking forwards to a brilliant year of learning together.
Each week we will share this post to give you a short overview of what we will be learning about the following week, any specific notices and also share the weekly Phonics home learning sheet.
So what will we be learning about this coming week....
Discovery - we will be beginning our new topic which is centred around the question: "Where is our School?" We will be exploring the school grounds and collecting items from nature to make a piece of art back in class.
English - we will be continuing to enjoy the book we started last week "Incredible You". We will think about what is incredible about each of us and then thinking about what we would like to do in the future with our talents!
Maths - this term is all about securing our understanding of numbers to 10. This week we will be counting objects to 10, representing objects with counters and then learning about words for numerals.
Science - we will begin our new topic on "Animals including humans". We will be thinking about our bodies and the many different parts that we know about.
Please see the "headlines" document on Tapestry for information on the other subjects we are learning about this term.
Notices:
PE - this will take place on Monday (indoors) for Orange O and Tuesday (indoors) for Orange K. We will all also have PE on Wednesdays with Kickstart. This will take place outside.
Snacks - please send into school just one small, healthy snack for your child to have during the day. We also have plenty of school snacks (fruit) that we can offer the children. Please do not send in lunch boxes unless your child is having a packed lunch for their school lunch. Thank-you for your co-operation with this.
Coats - Although the weather is still quite warm, it would be helpful if the children had a raincoat that they could leave in school on their pegs. This is so they can still enjoy playtimes even if there is a little rain! Thank-you.
Reading books - this week we will begin our reading practice sessions. This means your child will read in a small group 3 times with an adult. They will read the same book that is closely matched to their secure phonics knowledge. They will then bring this book home on Friday for them to read at home the following week. Please see the attached document on reading books in Orange Classes for further information and ways to support at home.
On Tapestry, you will find some additional information regarding the topics we will be covering in each subject this term; opportunities for Home Learning; information on how you can help at home with Maths and information on the reading books your children will bring home this year. If you have any questions about any of the above and the attached documents, please do get in touch. An e-mail was sent from the school office regarding changes to Home Learning this year and the documents attached to this post reflect that.
If you have any questions about any of the above or just general queries, do feel free to message us on here or catch us on the door at the end of each day.
Kind regards, Orange Class Team.
