Week Commencing: Monday 7th September 2026
Now that we’ve had a few days to settle into Year 5, it’s time to dive into our core subjects and get stuck into our learning for the term! There is lots to look forward to, with new topics, new challenges and plenty of opportunities to build on everything we have learned so far.
Swimming starts tomorrow for those taking part during Term One. Unfortunately, as our website has only recently been updated, I do not yet seem to have the power to upload documents. However, all children involved in swimming this term should have brought a paper copy of their social stories home on Friday.
Our spelling groups will be confirmed by the end of this week, ready to begin in Week 3. Once groups are confirmed, children will know which spelling list they are working on and can get started with their regular spelling practice.
In English, we are starting the term by exploring a narrative from another culture. We will be reading, discussing and unpicking the text before using what we learn to develop our own writing. Later in the term, we will move on to instructions, giving us another opportunity to develop our writing skills for a different purpose.
In maths, we are starting in the usual place: place value! We will build on our understanding of numbers before moving on to the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There will be plenty of opportunities to revisit key skills and tackle increasingly challenging problems.
More information about home learning and reading records will be coming in next week’s blog, so keep an eye out for those updates.
