What a busy week we have ahead of us in Year 4! We’ve got numbers, fairy tales, teeth, coastlines, Creation, PE, Harvest and even a little adventure around our local area. We’re certainly keeping ourselves busy!
This Week…
Maths
In Maths, we are continuing to develop our understanding of place value, moving on to partitioning numbers up to 10,000. We’ll be breaking those big numbers down into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones — essentially giving each digit its own little job to do!
English
We’re beginning to plan and write our very own fairy tales! We’ll be putting into practice all the skills we have been working on recently, including creating exciting characters, settings and events.
We’re hoping for magical kingdoms, mysterious forests, daring heroes and perhaps the occasional dragon… although we’re not making any promises about the dragons behaving themselves!
Science
Our Science learning continues with teeth. Our big question this week is:
“What can you tell about an animal from looking at its teeth?”
We’ll be investigating how an animal’s teeth can give us clues about what it eats and how it lives. Who knew that a quick look inside an animal’s mouth could tell us so much?
Discovery
In Discovery, we are continuing our learning about the UK coastline.
Our Learning Objective is:
“I can explain what a coast is and name its key features.”
We’ll be exploring the different features found where the land meets the sea and building up our geographical vocabulary along the way.
RE
In RE, our Learning Question for this term is:
“What do Christians learn from the Creation story?”
We’ll be exploring the Creation story and thinking about what Christians believe it teaches them about God, the world and how we should care for the wonderful world around us.
PE Days – A Little Change!
Just a quick reminder that one of our PE days has changed.
Our PE days will now be:
Monday – PE Kit
Wednesday – Forest School Kit
Please can children come into school wearing their PE kit on Mondays and their Forest School clothing on Wednesdays.
Thank you for helping us avoid the classic Year 4 moment of: “But I thought PE was on Friday!”
Harvest Festival Service – Save the Date!
We are really looking forward to our Harvest Festival Service this year.
We will be joining Year 5 at St John’s Church for our service together on:
Friday 2nd October
⏰ 9:30am
St John’s Church
We would absolutely love for parents and families to join us for this special time of worship and thanksgiving.
As all four classes will be joining together, however, we do recognise that seating and spacing may be limited. We wanted to give you plenty of notice so you can plan ahead.
Year 4 Field Trip – We Need Your Help!
A little advance notice…
On Friday 25th September, both Blue classes will be joining together for a field trip around our local area.
Our plan is to walk from school to the local Co-op, before heading around to King George’s Park, and then making our way back to school for approximately midday.
It promises to be a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore and learn about the local area — and, of course, to practise the extremely important skill of walking sensibly as a group!
We would really appreciate any parent helpers who would be willing to join us on this little Year 4 adventure.
If you are available and would like to help, please contact Miss Brown or Mr Frith.
Toys and Fidgets in School!
A gentle reminder that fluffy toys, squishy toys and fidgets need to remain at home.
We completely understand that some of these little friends are very important companions, classroom consultants and possibly even members of the family!
We really want to avoid any favourite toys becoming lost, broken, accidentally squashed, borrowed without permission or spending the weekend hiding underneath a bookshelf.
They can enjoy a peaceful day on the sofa at home while the children get on with their very important learning!
Thank you for your support with this.
Spellings
This week, we are learning words with the prefix ‘in-’, which means ‘not’.
Our spelling words are:
inadequate
inability
inelegant
indefinite
inactive
inflexible
incorrect
insecure
incurable
invisible
There are certainly some tricky ones in there this week, so a little practice at home will be very helpful!
As always, thank you for your continued support. We’re looking forward to another fantastic week of learning.
Home Learning
In line with the information already received regarding Home Learning, you will be able to access some home learning suggestions for reading, spelling and maths on our Blue Class home page.
Reading records were sent home this week; we are aiming for children to read at least 5 times per week and record what they have read themselves in their reading record. These will be shared each Monday and we will keep a note. We will celebrate with awards once the children reach certain milestones and we look forward to sharing certificates with families.

Term 1 - Week 6
How can it be week 6 already? The term is flying by and we are looking forward to another week full of learning.
27.09.26
Another busy week is upon us in Year 4! We’ll be rounding numbers, investigating instructions, travelling through the human digestive system, exploring our coastlines and asking some rather big questions about human nature. And, as if that wasn’t enough… there will be ukuleles!
Term 1 - Week 1 - WELCOME BACK!
Hello and welcome to Blue Classes!
We are excited to welcome to children back this week; we hope everyone had restful summer breaks. Please let Miss Brown or Mr Frith know if you need to update us on anything from over the Summer break.
